Do you find yourself being skeptical about the existence of God and even His revelation as brought about in the Bible? There are many wonders in the Bible that we naturally can’t explain and the devil uses these to put doubt in us. And so you keep wondering, how should I know the truth? How can I be freed from all these doubts and perplexities?

God never asks us to believe, without giving sufficient evidence upon which to base our faith.

Steps to Christ

God does not require us to have blind faith and neither has He removed the possibility of doubt. Those who wish to doubt will have the opportunity to while those who really desire to know the truth will find plenty of evidence to rest their faith.

Our reasoning as humans is limited. Our minds cannot fully comprehend the character or even the doings of our infinite God. (Job 11:7-8, Romans 11:33)

Despite the fact that we cannot fully comprehend the doings of our God he has not left us without some revelation from the scripture. He’s plainly given us some things to understand while others He’s hidden from us (Deuteronomy 29:29)

We cannot comprehend the entrance of sin into the world, the incarnation of Jesus Christ, and even the resurrection. That, however, shouldn’t give us room to doubt God’s word.

God has given us in the Scriptures sufficient evidence of their divine character, and we are not to doubt His word because we cannot understand all the mysteries of His providence.

Steps to Christ

We need to be steadfast and watchful in our faith. We shouldn’t twist the Bible and misinterpret the word of God. (2nd Peter 3:14-16). Peter acknowledges that some of these teachings are hard to understand but that gives no room to twist them for our own destruction.

God intends that even in this life the truth of His word shall be ever unfolding to His people. He has given us the scripture which is our light and should guide us in discovering the truth. We are to open the scriptures for ourselves and not rely on the interpretation of others. We have been promised the guidance of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:10-11), John 16:13).

We need to open the word of God with reverence and prayer. Our thoughts and affections are to be fixed upon God and in harmony with His will. We must always allow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Those who look to the Scriptures to find discrepancies, have not spiritual insight. With distorted vision they will see many causes for doubt and unbelief in things that are really plain and simple.

Steps to Christ

So what are you to do with doubt and your disbelief? Take them to God in prayer. Humble yourself and have a teachable heart. Prayerfully and with meekness search for the wonderful works of God in His scriptures. The more you’ll search the Bible the more you’ll get a conviction that is indeed the word of God.

It is my prayer that you may grow in grace and in the knowledge of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Chris. (2 Peter 3:18)
