a) Solving of Conflicts as Brethren
After coming from Egypt there arose a conflict between the servants of Abram & Lot. Abram forwards a
solution to the problem at hand. The Separation of Abram & Lot So that peace can be attained.
Points to note:-
Conflicts among brethren; Not productive to have strife amongst brethren. We are to be modern Abrams
who will broker a solution. And become champions of peace rather than fuelers of strife &
misunderstandings.
Humility- Abram humbles himself. He agrees to take the remaining place after Lot has decided where he
goes. This is notwithstanding the fact that he is the elderly among the two. Shows how humility solves
strife.
Separation as a solution – Comes a time when separation is a solution. When this happens may it come
when the striving parties separate without bitterness.
b) Decision-making/Choosing Wisely
Lot is given the opportunity to choose where he will go. He lifts his eyes and selects the plain. What are
the considerations we are to consider when choosing? Points to note:-
Considerations when making decisions; What are we to take into account when making a decision? Lot
chooses ease when selecting where to go. May we check on important things? What matters in life you
know. Eternal realities as opposed to temporal matters.
Differing Choice to those Qualified; Making a choice will require seeking the considered opinion of the
elderly. For in the abundance of counsel, there is safety. Abram was older than Lot. But what does Lot do?
He does not consult him. May this not be our lot.
c) Pitching Tents
Lot pitches his tent towards Sodom. He faces Sodom. A city was given to crime and sin. It is these that Lot
beholds. The direction of our tents matters. Things to note:-
Direction of our Tents; Where our tents face we’ll soon be there. For by beholding, we become. Lot begins
by facing Sodom. In the next chapter, we find him in Sodom.
Where are they facing?; Where are our tents facing? Our spiritual tent. Relationship tent. Education tent.
Family tent. Career tent. Ministry tent. What are they beholding? Are they facing heaven or beholding the
world?
d) God’s Assurance
God appears to Abram after his separation from Lot. He promises to give his descendants the land he is
in. What an assurance! Points to note:-
Abiding Presence of God; God comes to Abram after separating from Lot. He is an abiding friend. One
that will offer us company when others leave us. Yes, when we feel forsaken and left to face life alone. He
draws near.
Allowed to walk in the Land; Abram is allowed to walk in the Land. To see all the land. God has given us
the liberty to be free in his service. His truth sets us free. Heavenly principles are for our edification. Our
liberty. Not to enslave us.
